in my 79 i was told when i bought it that it has a rebuilt 390. the guy i bought it from is my neighbor and i can trust him pretty good. But on a recent thread about how much lift i should put on it UTfball posted a question about how i got a 390 into it. i didn't put the motor in but i can tell that it has been gone through good cause of how good it runs and it doesn't leak anything anywhere pretty much. so, is it really hard or impossible to get a 390 into a 79 F150 ranger or something???? then i need to figure out what the motor really is. the numbers are D3TE on the Pass side and 105 by the oil filter i was told on the FE forum that this meant a 73 390 block is this true also?
UT is a good source of info and he always means well. Maybe there was a misunderstanding in the question.
Like northeaster79 said, a 390 would not have come in a truck. What's more is by '79 the 360 didn't either. No more FE's. If the number decodes to '73--that's probably what it is--and what UT probably meant to say is that the motor was swapped in, not that it wouldn't fit.
In 79 I believe the only V8's you could get were the 351M and 400 in 4x4 and 460 in 2x4. You didn't say if it's 4x4 or 2x4.
Please, some one jump in and correct me if I'm wrong.
Very well could have been swapped in, 390 is a great motor. If you want to know for sure count the valve cover bolts, I can't remember how many on a 360/390 but someone here will know. 351m/400 has a different number of bolts and so does 289/302/351w, usually a pretty good way of at least finding out which engine family it belongs to
thanks a lot. i knew that it was swapped in because from the vin it came with a 300 6 cyl. i know that UT meant well, he has helped me a lot on the few posts ive done, i just wanted to make sure that it really is a FE so that i can get all the right parts for it.

HAHA...there goes Ben giving out advice again...never listen to him. He's actually my brother-in-law...and he turned me on to this site a couple weeks back. Just bought a 76 250 2by...and he said this was a good site to get info when he can't help me. I'll get pics of my truck up as soon as I can figure this mess out. Wrench turning is more my thing...not 'puters.

My condolences, Ford Stable. Thanksgiving must be hell!
Haha thanks Jolly Green it is quite the sight at thanksgiving and whatnot. We all get together at his parent's house...with 5 kids, my family (wife, kids)...it can get kinda crowded...and I can only imagine how big the family will get. Was just talking to Ben and apparently he got suspended from the site for a couple days...I read a couple threads and it said he got booted for multiple infractions...but he said he ONE for talking about classifieds in the forum...and then two more for a recent thread in the FE forum. Go figure, I just start get started here...and he's gone. But he said this is a great site with lots of knowledge. Here are the thread in question, and another that got closed when some folks were in disbelief:
