Right now im torn between removing the ranger XLT Trim on my truck. Ive seen pictures with it on and off the trucks. I know i need to take it off anyways in order to do some body work but i dontknow if i even want to put it back on. I think its a nice chrome contrast but i like the way trucks look with it off as well. Just wondering what your prefferances are.
Personally, I like the no badge look. Nice clean sides. I think Ford went a little crazy with the badging for awhile there. Obviously if you are going for a full resto you need them, but imho they look better without.
I too also like the plain look. I removed all the chrome on my f-100 when i redid it. Pics are in my gallery. I have also installed the bed since the pics were done. Only badges I have are the little cobras on the front lower fenders Chuck

That looks real nice Chuck, but they are never done are they.
Heres the truck in question. Ive already removed all the lower trim and didnt even bother trying to save it. It was damaged, and rusted so not worth anything. But the upper trim is in very good shape. Nice and shiney no rust or dents. I dont have a ton of money so its probally gonna be primer for quite a while. I could always pull it off carefully and save it if i decide to use it but again like i said it could be a while.
If you live where they put salt on the roads and you drive your truck in that crap, take it off. If you live where rust isn't as big of an issue leave it on.
I like the looks of it, but it's just a horrible place for rust to start. Being that the OP lives in Iowa, I would say take it off and keep it if you think you may someday fix the truck up. If not, take it off, fill the holes, get it primered and there you be. But it looks to me that he may have other rust concerns then what is under the trim.

Good point IZZY. I drive in the salt. I also wash my truck after it snows whether it is cold or not. Trim or not these truck are probably going to rust if you live where they use salt.
My opinion is it looks great, i'd keep it. I think that amount just dresses it up a bit, but if I could get my fingures on a set for tu-tone mine would be silver insert tomorrow. Look at all the pic's in gallerys before you ditch it. Good luck on your restore, all I have left to find for mine is the factory bed rails, then paint after son is out of college.
no trim for me...(pics in gallery)...I took that nasty stuff off and welded in all the badge holes...only place is says FORD on my truck is the floor mats....keeps people guessing as to what it is.
I guess I'm a chrome fanatic! I agree that some are too much, that is why I kept the upper part and the very bottom. It started out with the Chrome around the center but I didn't care for that. No matter what the decision is, I love my 70's F series!!!
IMO it depends on the color and the style of the truck. Black, definatly keep the trim, but any other color, is up to you. I dont have trim on mine, being a stepside, and no chrome options other than custom for the bed, i didnt want chrome on the front and nothing on the bed. Tho, i kinda prefer them off. Two-tone is a must have trim i think too.

This truck is similar to mine. I have no trim at all on the sides including the rocker panels at the bottom. But looking at this truck, I see what seems to be a common problem..... the areas under the gas caps where gas constantly leaks out when it if full or just sloshed around real good. I primed my truck and started to paint it (alothough I kinda like the primer look), but I hestitated until I can figure out how to stop my gas from coming out. The neck on the gas inlet is so....something, that I have to pump real slow or it just comes right back out! Anyway, Just my opinion, but I think that all the trim on the sides of the trucks or cars for that matter, can be a breeding ground for rust, so I am leaving mine off. Nice truck.
