well i personally dont think it will work like you want. if you flip a rear axle over you get 3 reverse gears an 1 forward gear......or at least thats what i was allways told.....id hate to see what would happen if you swapped only the front axle and not the back.

when you flip a rear, you dont actually flip it, you just mount your leafs under it

I've got a buddy that does it on 70's trucks all the time. And as a matter of fact, he is from Florida.

I'm one of the "nay-sayers", but then again I'm from California and we don't have too many of the back woods hack-fab rigs out here. I'd REALLY love to see pics of how this actually works without making the camber/caster go to he$$

wel dude im from central fl. in the navy now and staioned in SD, CA. i can see what you mean. you obveously dont see a lot of backwoods stuff on the roads here. the reason i wann do this biuld here is to f these peoples heads up and show the desert runner what the "old flip can do". it's truely unique to say "yea, i didnt buy any thing. i just built it."
ps-it's the camber thats truely effected

Read my posts in the other thread on this, and also have a look at my posts towards the end of the "anyone ever seen a dentside lowered this way" thread.

They deal with welding, fabrication, etc. and then get into the issues of camber and caster on these things.

I agree with the wanting to do it yourself thing. I make all my own crap... I just don't agree with running something that will perform like crap just to say "I built it myself".

You want to do it RIGHT and then say you did it yourself. With how many people have done this, there is a reason we aren't just flipping these beams over. Do what the real "desert runners" do and modify a set of beams. Cut or bend them to gain the lift you desire while still keeping the camber/caster at acceptable levels. Then add a uniball on the end of the beam to dump that stock bushing. Plate in with 3/16" 4130 plate, make a set of heim ended radius arms and be done with it.

There is a LOT that the back woods fab guys can learn from the desert folks out here. Our fab seems to be above and beyond what is seen in other areas of the county. Maybe this is due to what we put our trucks through...

Here is a local guy "testing" his newly completed TOYota...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vajuC77zdEE

Keep in mind this is a TEST run and probably his 3rd or 4th time driving the truck. This is nothing compared to what these trucks see in Baja.
If you want a link to his build thread let me know. His fab quality will blow your mind.

Sweet video ChaseTruck, How is the OC, I used to live in Tustin when was stationed @ El Toro, and then moved to Rancho Santa Margarita RSM. Now I am up in the beautiful Yosemite area.
Yes, there are some nice engineering feats out there in the desert, I debated doing the pre-runner to my 66, but decided it was to nice to hack up or crash, once I find a donor truck, I might just have to do it!

OC is overcrowded - but still cool in many ways. I'm not sure if it is as cool as where you are now though. I bet it's beautiful up there this time of year!

You might re-consider not building your 66 once you see this one (3rd post up from the bottom - page 36)

There were more pics of it somewhere else in the tread - but it would take me forever to find them again. If you are bored flip through it - there are some cool pics, but with 36 pages - it takes a while too look through.

OK - back on topic. Anyone have pics of a truck with a flipped front beam??????
