I'm trying to install a tach in my truck (see sig), and it says for distributor equipped vehicles, to hook the green wire to the negative (ground side) of the coil. Where is it? and if someone has a picture, that would be great cause even with my test light i wasn't havin any luck.
if you unplug the coil its labled + and - on the inside, but it is the left wire if your looking at the coil from the front of the truck.
You see where the tap is installed thats the neg side as thats my tach wire.
Check the wiring diagram for your dash. Tach wiring is ialready included in one of the 2 harness connectors that plug into the dash. Or I went to psalvage yard andand pulled rhe display out of a truck that had a tach & trip odometer plugs in and needs no new wiring. Have to use same type speedo type cable or electronic also get oil sender as its matched to the gauge $35 bucks for both. Also it can be out of multi trucks & years. I took mineout of a 91 lariat for my 87'f-150 but any 87' &-91' ranger or bronco also fair game.
You could just get an instrument cluster with a tach. Its a plug and play swap. Just make sure you get a cluster from a 92 or 93. The other years won't work correctly.
I have a MSD 6a box and got the coil with it, the red connector is a tap that taps into the wire, it has since been rewired but thats how it would go. I like the tach on the wheel better then the cluster, too much work for me.
Yea I think it was the super tach 2, MSD was cake to install, 1 to +, 1 to -, 1 to + of factory coil wire, and 1 to neg of factory coil wire, then you have a pos and neg from the box to the coil.
