Hi I have a 99 F-150 5.4 V8 With straight pipes, I still have the stock cats on
I know this might be a dumb? But would my truck be Louder with a super 40s
series flowmaster or just leave it the way it is and put high-flow cats on it?
Also If i put flowmaster on it will i gain Horse power over straits? Somebody
told me that my motor would run better with back pressure on it...?
Dont cut the cats... you will lose a lot of bottom end power to gain a very little top end...go with the 40's if you are wanting some louder noise.. my 50's are loud when im in it and quite when im cruising ... perfict for me...i have no experiance with high flow cats..
I cut the stock muffler off of my truck last Spring. In the Fall, I put on a Flowmaster Super 40, and it really made the truck quiet.
If you are going for sound, then gut the cats and run straight pipes (I wouldnt go bigger than 2.25" pipe) into some nice 3-3.5 inch, 18+ inch long tips. You will lose some low-end due to the lack of backpressure though.
Gutted cats into a Flowmaster also sound good. www.performance-curve.com has their single chamber race muffler for only $25.
