I was talking to someone about the transmission issues in a 94 ranger, and he said to try a $25 modular valve. Basicially, the thing drives fine once its going, but you'll have to rev the engine 3-500 rpms to get it moving. I dont know for sure, but by ear that's what i;d guess. Sometimes its less or not at all, but ususlly 3-500.
How would i install this thing?? I have to crawl under there anyway to change the fluid and filter, so i might as well do this too. Any advice is appriciated.
The modulator valve will not cause problems starting out. It will keep it from shifting out of first until the rpms are super high.
What you describe sounds like a typical ford A4ld or 4r44e trans failure to me. I have had several of these transmissions fail in the same way. I'd suggest changing the fluid and filter as in the past it has helped me limp bad trannys along for a few more months.
