When i worked at a gun shop a couple years ago,i had a customer who custom ordered a 454 Casull,im thinking it was from Freedom Arms, cant remember though! What i do remember when it arrived, was how incredibly smooth and precise it was,the buyer let me dry fire it with snap caps a few times. you could rotate the cylinder, and it was instantly obvious what a precision instrument it was! Afterwards, you could hold a Ruger Blackhawk,a Colt Python,or a well tuned Smith, and they felt crude in comparison.
living in montana I grew up with guns they are a part of everyday life here. in fact right now are gov is running 4 reelection and he has a commercial that shows him shooting clay pigions. the only thing I have to say about gun control is that a well armed society is a very polite society.
I'm pretty much against a lot of gun contrl laws in the US because it's too way for the bad guys to still get them.
That being said, I don't keep one for home defense for a lot of reasons,
- Self defense is tough to prove if you wound or kill somebody.
- I'd probably hesitate long enough to let the bad guy take it away from me
- I wake up pretty groggy --if I had a weapon close by and I was startled, bad things could happen.
But those are my choices, and I'd like to keep it that way.
A little off topic, but this thread reminded me of an ad in our company newspaper. ( And I saw it, this is not something I heard about)
gun control is using both hands... and hitting what you aim at...
With that 454,,, Just aim in the vicinity of the target! If the bullet don't get you,,, the debris will!
Loved the 300gr. shells , but was not crazy about those 500gr. Jr. artillery shells!
Friend of mine made up a little saying about my 454,,,,
Dirty Harry is a WUSS, Rambo is a WENNIE!
I don't know,,,, Something about seeing moonlight off the barrel?
> How does one effectively stop the bad guys from using the guns?
If a convicted (especially violent) felon has a gun in their possession or uses a gun/knife/weapon in the commission of their next crime, kill them. They can hunt, they can have one for home defense, but, next felony with a gun is an automatic death sentence would cure a lot of crime, since it is repeat offenders that commit 80% of the crimes.
No appeals, upon conviction, you get taken out back and hung and your victim or victim's family pulls the lever at your public hanging.
That would cure almost all violent crime, especially with a weapon.
Let me pick your brain (I seem to like doing that )
Realistically, in this day and age, with the "way things work" right now, how does the gov. successfully put a slow down on bad guys getting/using guns for crime, while not effecting, or barely effecting, the legal gun owner?

they cant, because those who abide by the laws are willing to take the time, jump through the legal hoops, etc all in an effort to remain legal and legit. criminals cant have the guns legally anyway,so whats another felony matter, they also typically have there own little networks or circles that they have made in prison,so it often faster and easier for them to get guns.
What about making it extremely difficult to get handguns? (thats what they do up here, and people still can get them legally and illegally, but we dont seem to have as much of the handgun crime)

By now,in the US at least,so many of the wrong people own and use guns, that we truly need the legal option to own,and if necessary, have a loaded firearm at our disposal! we have gone far enough down the road,so to speak, that an option to turn around is no longer viable,in my opinion! Up in Canada, you have apparently chosen a different road(not sure if its a better or worse road, but most assuredly different!) and for now,it seems to work okay for you! If it continues to work, and you dont have a lot of crimes committed with handguns, thats fantastic!
