Auto Locking Hubs.

Can anyone help? I have a '92 F-150 4x4 with newer style auto hubs (3-bolt) The dealer replaced the original (5-bolt) hubs in 1995 cause I complained about a noise in the front-end witch turned out not to be the hubs.. It was a suspension noise. I'm considering going back to the older style hubs because I had trouble with 3-hole hubs(Lost 4x4) when I NEEDED 4-WHEEL DRIVE THE MOST! I got stuck in the snow and had to be pulled out by a Dodge!
(That Hurt) Anyway are the 5-bolt better than the 3-bolt? I know manuals are best but I really don't want them. Thanks.

Auto Locking Hubs.

If you install the manuals you will never have to wonder if its in fourwheel drive again. Auto locking hubs are prone to failure, and its always not at a good time! Been there, done that. Its not fun to find your hubs not engaging properly when you get your first 6" snowfall of the year. The lockouts are more effort, but the piece of mind is well worth it. If you anticipate trouble just lock them in before it gets ugly, then you don't have to get out and get messy doing it.

I also have a 92 f150 4x4. This is the first Ford that I have owned with the auto hubs and they went sour one deer season. The hub literaly grenaded and when it did it took the bearing lock nuts and ring an broke all of them on that side. I called a local Ford dealer for the price on the auto hubs and a set of manual. Also called a local 4x4 shop and asked the same question $350.00 for the autos and $80.00 for the manuals from Ford, $350.00 for the autos and $75.00 for warn manuals and $10.00 for the lock rings from the 4x4 shop. Needless to say it now has warn manuals and I have piece of mind knowing that my 4 wheeldrive will always engage whe it is needed. Now I wish that I had the transfer case lever instead of the buttons. But life goes on and it worked out well

Nothing good can come from using auto hubs, they will surely let you down again. And when you need 4WD no time is ever a good time. Like I tell anyone trying to improve their off road rig or skills, If you want to get where you want to go, "All tires must participate". A little inconvenience has got to be worth the peace of mind. Just my .02 worth.
