Hello all,
My friend has a 95 F 250 with the 7.3 and we are doing the 6637 and I looked at the turbo and saw it was all bend and there is play in the shaft. What should be his course of action for the cheapest way to get his truck back on the road.
Thanks
Nick and Hamburger
How did the blades get bent? Do they scrape on the compressor housing when you spin it. You should check the shaft for play up/down and in/out. A small amount of play up and down is ok. It's just a bushing and some of the play will be taken up by oil pressure. There should be very little play in and out.
How much play does it have? The 01 compressor will fit but it of a different (little worse) design. The turbo's are easy to rebuild. You can get a rebuild kit for $100 with free balance but you have ship the center section out to have the balance done. Then a new compressor is around $85.
Some play side to side/up and down is normal as long as the compressor doesn't scrap the housing. There should be virtually no movement in and out. The spec is something like .008 of an inch.
I would buy all the parts from Ron't Turbo Shop on ebay. I have a rebuilt unit from him and it is top notch! Ron himself is top notch as he helped me greatly when my turbo went out.

The turbo wheel looks like it got hit with something in multiple places. Now it did have a K&N air filter in it so that might have caused it.
Ron's is the cheapest place I have found. Any of the site sponsors are $120 just for the rebuild kit plus the price of the wicked wheel compressor
Ok another question. I only looked for play left to right not in and out and I will check that tomorrow, but if there isn't any play all I need is a new Compressor wheel right?

Correct if the play feels good (there will be some but it shouldn't hit the housing) then all you need is the compressor ($85).
