Well over 150K. Big deal Some don't seem to get the point. I never stated if you don't do a UOA you're going to have a pending engine oil related failure, but like I mentioned who's to say you can't go over a 5K OCI on that same oil. Why dump a perfectly good oil when it's good for another few thousand miles. That's the reason I paid to do them on my wife's car. I found Mobil Clean 5000 (conventional oil) was more than up to the challenge to go 6-6.5K oil changes per her driving habits. I change her oil 2-3 times a year and her oil changes only cost me $13 .
Well it cost me $15 a year to do the ranger and now it may get 5K in that year, the Focus get it 5 times a year at $13 and the Tribute gets it 2 to 3 times a year @ $15{depends on how far we go on vacation].SO TELL ME AGAIN WHY I NEED TO SPEND AN EXTRA $75 EVERY TIME I CHANGE MY OIL. {3x$25 Oil analysis}Sorry this does not add up to me. I tell/ ask NO ONE here to do an oil change as I do. I just tell people that ask what has worked for me.I say again Oil analysis are a good thing, I just don't have the extra $$ to do them. Now maybe the next time I change my oil with out an Oil analysis done it will Lock up and never run again .Then you and others here will be HAPPY!!! J/K
I use true synthetics because it does save me money. I can't speak for you, but with my driving habits, I can pull heavy loads, and go long distances, and only change the oil once every 20,000 miles or so. Sure it only takes a few minutes to do an oil change, but my time is worth something to. If I arrive late to one of my customers because I was busy doing an oil change, that can cost me a lot more than the difference in the cost of the oil.
I know from experience that the 15,000 mile Mobil1 starts looking really gross after just 10,000 miles, which indicates the oil is oxidizing and breaking down, and the detergent action is becoming saturated. It might still be able to protect the engine for a long time still, I'm just saying it gets darker faster. The RP still looks good when I change it at 20,000, and I could go further probably, can't say since I haven't had it analyzed.
I have noticed that the Mobil1 leaks more too. I have leaky valve covers on my Aerostar. When I run RP I have to add a quart about every 5,000 miles. With the Mobil, its about every 3,000 miles. I know, thats not much of a leak, a lot of people consider a quart every 3,000 to be normal. The leak is going to be taken care of tomorrow, I have an appointment to have both valve cover gaskets replaced on my van, along with the upper intake gasket, since it has started leaking too. Before my gaskets started leaking, I did not have to add any oil over the entire service interval. The leak started after my transmission caught fire (that was not cool, but it did not do any serious damage, and the transmission was rebuilt that same week).

gray I wasn't saying to do a UOA everytime you change the oil. one or two is usually enough to get a baseline. Then again they're not for everyone, and by all means if you're set on your current OCI that's fine and dandy with me.
I hadn't done a UOA on my RMS in over 10,000 miles. (synthetic since I bought it) Got one back today and it seems after 172K, the bearings are not very happy with the abuse I've been giving it personally over the past 50K (130+mph WOT blasts, 13.5 1/4 Mile runs, constant street abuse etc). I'm seeing 65ppm of lead in my sample. Not good. Might be time to rebuild for me. Of course I might send in another sample as silicon was way high (125ppm), and that could have caused it. I did install a powdercoated intake, but who's to say I got all the blasting media out of it.
Now buff you know better!!!! With any Race engine you need to do an UOA.Heck we use to do them on every 3rd oil change on the dirt track car.{ funny thing it always said that there was fuel in it. Damn 13 to 1 chevy raceing engines}And always use a magnetic drain plug.
