I have a 81 F150 4x4 with a very tired 351m and a slipping C6 tranny. I found a rebuilt healthy 400 with a C6 transmission out of a 79 4x2. I have been told that all I have to do is take the 13 1/2" tail piece off the two wheel drive unit and bolt on the three piece tail section from my 4x4 C6 and everything will fit and be good to go.
I haven't found anyone yet who can tell me if all C6 transmission bodies are the same and the tail pieces are all that is differet as I am being told. I appreciate any help before I by an engine and transmission and can't use the tranny.
I have been told that you have to swap output shafts on the trannies. The 4x4 shaft is shorter. I found a local shop that would swap it for $200 if I brought the tranny in.
