My wrecker for work has the electonic idle controller, little black box that shows a digital RPM and has a big FORD button. Well it wasnt hooked up because i was told it was broken, so i tried it anyways and after cleanning the e-brake pedal sensor got it to work as a idle controller. My question is how does this controller read the rpms? Because it will not show up in the wrecker, but it will in my truck. Any thoughts would be great, Thanks
Let me get this straight:
It controls the idle on both trucks? but the tach only works on your truck?
Does the tach work on the wrecker?
There is more than one hi idle/PTO controller or
APCM's (Auxiliary Powertrain Control Module).
The APCM may not be compatible from year to year
or from a Cali/Van to an F series or from an Auto to a Manual trans.
You need to verify which controller is used with :
PCM 'catch-word' tag may be located on the vehicle A-pillar or on the PCM itself.
catch-word for a all manual trans (SOD4)
catch-word for an Automatic F250, F350 & E350 (TEE5)
F450's are (PRY4)
There are 2 for 1995 only, one with CC and one w/o.
Trucks prior to 95 need to be reprogrammed to OBD2
APCM gets the Tach signal from the PCM.
IIRC the PCM uses the CPS signal for the Tach?
The Tach signal comes from different pins on the PCM from a Cali/Van PCM to
a 49 state PCM so that may be the differences, IDK.
The APCM gets it's signal(s) by piggybacking on the PCM through the OBD2 connector wires T/O and PK/LB. The W/P is power and BK is ground
F series Power (W/P) comes from:
fuse 18 under the dash 96-98
Fuse 19 for a 1999
Ok, well both trucks are 1997 F-350's. Mine is and auto and the wrecker is a ZF. The tach works in the wrecker on the gauge cluster but not on the Controller, and the wrecker is not a Cali truck and nor is mine. When it is plugged into my truck the rpms will show up on teh controller but they are very slow to move, and they are really jumpy. i.e. it will go from 780-1200 and nothing in between.
I can't get my digital AIC to read RPM's in my parents 97, but it reads in my 97. Friend had trouble with his not reading till he put a chip in.... who knows
