i found that my idle air control solenoid was the route to the majority of my problems and was curious on how i could possibly bench test it or clean it and possibly make it work.. or test one from the wreckers thnx.
I personally have never bought a new one. I clean em with throttle body cleaner and and old toothbrush - take it off the truck to do this. If you are gonna buy a new one, be sure to get a Motorcraft. The other replacements are junk in my experience.
Disconnect the battery while cleaning or replacing so you reset the computer. I can then take up to a week for the computer to re-learn the idle.
Yup, I bought a new one, didn't work any better then the old one.
Remove the old one, take it apart(two small screws)---mark the orientation of the two pieces by scribing them with screwdriver. Clean the valve portion with brake clean and blow it dry. Then do the same with the soleniod portion. Then a touch of PB blaster or such to lubricate it. You should be able to shake the soleniod and have it rattle easily.
Put it back together and install it.
I made the mistake of using oil to lubricate the soleniod, but when it got cold outside it would stick and not work right. I cleaned and used PB on it and it has worked flawless all winter(-20 weather).
well i hosed it in carb cleaner and she runs prime now i finally got the 302 to idle at 600 and nicely lol.... it was gummed up with old dirty oil from my pcv that was leaking into my intake and making it smoke blue at high rpm's so 2 birds with one stone lol thnx guys cheers

so the iac completely ***** itself and now it wont stay running with it plugged in but if i unplug it the truck starts rough but runs smooth. and i priced out the IAC solenoid and damn its steep its $200 after taxes so i was wondering how to bench test one at the wreckers

lol lordco summit racing is $39.99 plus like $20 in shipping and handling and then the U.S. to Canadian conversion so i'm in at least $70 but i might be able to find a newer one at the wreckers
