The act of "growing"one or more, and the word for an object used in most sports, A ball or *****,these arent words that the late great George Carlin listed in his "7 words you cant say on TV".... these are innuendo, one sees innuendo on television, even on shows that are considered appropriate for children..... Isnt the phrase that started this whole problem, the phrase that UTfball apologized for, still in place on a few forums, and if so it needs to be removed immediately...... the connotations it implies are far worse than the remark about growth of a certain anatomical feature....The thread that he(UTfball) mentions seems like it could be more inflammatory than the suggestion that some should "grow" some "features"........... Because of the current econ. situation, this is my .01 worth, ill try for 2 cents when the markets improve........ Bob

If you are KNOWINGLY trying to sidestep the FTE guidelines (in this case, symbols)... we will pinch you. Do not fool yourself. In fact, we know you now fully understand this particular guideline. Not all of us are as cuddly and cute as Krewat . This site has a great group of members who have helped make it what it is today, and what it will be in the future... please do not muck it up for the sake of... boredom?

I will not speak for him here.... but sometimes you have to call a spade a spade. If you do this long enough, there will always be a small percentage of users who simply will not comply. I would call his post something along the lines of 'schoolyard justice'. Peers will sort it out.

Calling a moderator out is not a smart thing to do..... I'd suggest that be the last time it occurs in the open forum. We do not have many problems... and we would like to keep it that way. Just keep your nose clean, and leave the moderating to us. Thanks I am sure Krewat will swing by with his thoughts as well.

I realize that i may be walking onto thin ice now,but one could infer that you are possibly saying that the Moderators arent held to the same standards? tell me im off-base if thats so,but could one conceivably see how this might appear.......Bob

No thin ice. From the guidelines:

9. Issues with Moderation and Site Policy . If a situation arises in which you have a problem or conflict with the Moderation Team of FTE or FTE Site Policy, please contact an Administrator through email or private messaging systems rather than in open forum.

We can't possibly read every post, in every thread, in every forum. Stuff slips by... nature of the beast. We try to handle this as evenly as possible.

Well your reputation, post count, and even tone tell me this is probably the case. Thanks

I usually edit the post or thread title and let it go at that, with a PM to the user saying "don't do that" ...

Well put. You definitely do help out.

Perfect. We have an understanding

Which I do apologize for calling you out krewat...didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. And keep on moderating, you guys do a good job, and by no means do I have an issue of what you do, nor do I envy it. I would not want to be in your positions.
I have no feathers to ruffle

As for that thread in the FE forum you were talking about, with the newbies posting about the 390 vs. 460, well, I did some post removal in there, cleaned it up, and let everyone know it was being watched, and that we could have fun with the newbies. It worked out well, everyone walked away satisfied and apologies were given in the right places. THAT one worked out OK. Others, well, didn't.

And we moderators have to look into the crystal ball and see which ones will, and which ones won't. Sometimes, we make the wrong call, or at least it LOOKS like the wrong call to others because we don't let it finish we just close it.

Anyway, I think we've reached a consensus here... Have fun

You don't. Even negative ones. I think it depends on how much rep you've already gotten.

if you are referring to the people from out west, there was no "banning spree". rather, there were a bunch of people that refused to abide by the rules. and when they were called on the violations, they sunk to calling certain members of the staff and their family's very crude, nasty, insulting names and worse to get the last word in before they were censured again. the staff had enough of their childish games, and they were told to leave and never come back.

If the powers that be were to decide to go on a banning spree, myself and a few others who allowed ourselves to get a little nasty in our discussions on politics, guns, religion would have probably got ourselved tossed out,all of us.
We were told to conduct ourselves in a respectful manner, and we have done this,so i would imagine that those who got 86'd probably went WAY over the line, and did so repeatedly.
Im opinionated,i can be argumentative and sarcastic, and i have resorted to name calling,Admin asked me and others to behave better,so i think that getting tossed isnt something that you get for minor infractions........
