Recalibration

When you go to bigger tires or rims, is it necessary to recalibrate the spedometer?

If so is there a way to do it?

THanks guys.

Not necessary but the speedo will be off and so will the odometer. If anyone near you has an AE then they can recalibrate it for you.

Dealer can calibrate up to a 35" tire. If someone near you has Autoenginuity with the latest update, they can calibrate up to a 40" tire.

So how far off would it be if I have 285-70-17? Is it worth doing?
I used to have a '92 Bronco and I was able to adjust it using the trip reset button, I'm guessing that they must have changed that on newer trucks?

now a days every thing is done through the PCM.it will need to be programmed... sounds like your just changing rim size not tire size unless your running 265's right now...285's wont be that far off..maybe 3MPH

one of the few things my Hypertec was good for was speedo calibration
when I changed from 215-85 to 235-85 speedo was off about 5 mph and trans seemed to work better when speedo was calibrated

now with DP speedo is off about 5 mph again
Don't know if that has anything to do with goofy 1-2 upshift or not
