First of, I'd like to say hi! Newb here. Ok, so I found this truck. 1977 F-250 Factory Highboy. The guy is asking $1500. Everything works, PS, 4WD, etc. Doesn't smoke, etc. 400 motor, auto, 205 transfer case. I'm thinking about offering him $1000 cash for it. What do you all think? Thanks!
I'd say 'jew' him down to around 750, myself.......the bed's a mess on the side you took the pic of.......I'd use the cost of repairing that to negotiate price, plus anything else you can see, smell, etc. .......if not go between 750 & 1,000, what ya think?
You only live once, early half of 1977 was the last of the factory High Boy's, offer him a grand if you feel good with that. I'd probably pay $1500 for a truck like that without much for rust and build a flatbed for it. Go for it.
Except for that dent on the drivers side bed, the truck looks pretty solid. I'd say you can't go wrong with $1000 as long as the drivetrain and motor are solid.
It's really all up to how You feel about it. Things I notice are 1) a different cab - fuel tank in cab is not '77, 2) an aftermarket/dealer installed midship fuel tank (no fuel door), 3) no tail gate - maybe not a big deal, but they are getting harder to find and are not cheap new. Is the transfer case a divorce-style? A lot of '77's become highboy's when put up for sale to the uninformed. What condition is the interior - another expensive part to refurbish... Like I said, it's really up to you and if you think it's a good deal. It's easy for us to say buy it - it's not our money!
i would say buy it if the frame is in good shape, and the underside, if its on its way to becoming a Flintstones truck because of rust then i would get the price real low due to the work already needed plus the floor work or cab mounts which are prone to rust, and a good thing it comes with a factory push bar!! i paid 115 bucks for mine up here in Canada, but it was mint and no rust pits plus theres almost none around my neck of the woods, any ways it looks like a solid buy all around , if the drive train is up to snuff and is it a np 205 or the weak np 203 transfer case, i would ask him, because the np203 is chain driven and the np 205 is geared and is super strong! anyways nice truck and try to get him down to 700 bucks, remember you can always barder a higher price not lower, and act like you are not impressed with the dents and work needed and act like you don't really want it, lol it works some times!
I'm ALWAYS one for jewin em down just a bit more, cash talks, BS walks, if you walk up with 7 bills in your hand, 1 in each front pocket, and 1 in your wallet, put 7 on the hood, say that's all the wife would give me.,... see where it goes
looks like a decent truck for $700. I've seen people pay a lot more for worse stuff.
NOCO77, what are you talking about? all highboy's had the in-cab tank. 77 was the last year for the in-cab tank.
to see if it's a true highboy: crawl under the truck, count the number of driveshafts, if it's 3 then you got a highboy.
yes the NP205 is the transfer case with the hub lockouts. like Ben said you can get the conversion kit for the NP203 (full time case), so you can (un)lock if you want to.
also post the VIN number here and we can decode it for you. I believe if the last 6 digits are before Y20,001 it's a highboy. also all highboys sat 4 inches higher than the 78 and 79 F250s. highboy - a 67-77.5 F250 4x4, divorced transfer case, sits 4 inches higher, and had an in-cab tank.
sorry guys i did not even look at the hubs, i was too busy looking at that non factory dent in that dentside, no puns intended, all joking aside i was a idiot for not looking at the front wheel, doh! oh well, i still think 700 is the magic offer, can't go to low, or ya might offend the guy, but i have acted like i did not really want it and i got things for alot less unless there a steal of a deal to begin with, but this truck looks alright to my rustbelt canuck eyes lol and run the vin and see what it really is, and see who the po was and contact them if you can, and i like the 700 bucks on the hood scheme, i like that style and i have to remember to try that one accept i am not married fortunately ! lol i don't know if i will ever want a ball and chain! i am only 19 and that might change if i find the right lady, put are any of them perfect lol
