I just bought a '05 F250 and noticed the plug for the 2" hole in the firewall is missing. This hole is on the driver side behind brake booster. From searching on here it sounds like the plug is used on trucks with automatic trans, the hole is for clutch linkage. The previous owner must have removed it to run wires thru since there is some insulated tape covering part of it. Does anyone know if this part is available from dealer or anywhere else? Or can I get some type of rubber plug that might fit?
That tape is all there is. It is not a grommet. It's actually a thin rubbery sheet and wires easily poke right through it. It's sort of self healing around the wires too, but if it's been penetrated and changed a lot you might want to change it.
I'm sure FTE Parts Guy can get it. Just give him a jingle.
Piece of cheap factory crap made of silver tape - cost me $11 and lasted about a month before I used duct tape to seal it up where I poked the wires through for my temp. sensor.
Don't bother with factory replacement- just cut a nice piece of duct tape or two and you're all fixed up. Buy black duct tape for a cleaner look if it floats your boat.
Aren't those in the back of the cab? He is looking for the firewall clutch blanking cover.
I struggled with that too when I was looking at the picture, but It was only thing I could find and it kinda looked right so I was kinda shooting from the hip.
I'll look around a little more today when I get a few minutes.
In some ways I agree with WWW, it's just a piece of tape and you could cover it with anything.
On the other hand, if you want to penetrate it with your own wiring, the Ford tape tends to seal around the wire in a way that duct tape would not. And it is low enough on the firewall that you could get water coming in if it's not sealed.
is this what you were looking for? I cut mine to run airlines through...
its just a peice of foam (like whats inside a life vest) cut to fit, instead of ducttape if you have an old lifevest cut the foam out and stick it in there.
The foam is on the inside of the cab (basically sound proofing), the clutch delete patch is in the engine compartment on the other side of the notched foam and firewall. If you don't have the clutch delete patch on the outside firewall, it's a cold draft coming in by your feet in the winter as the foam isn't sealed.
Auto body sealant is available from any body shop supply store, comes in a tube and is applied like bathroom caulk. It is designed to flex and provide a water tight seal. Get a thin piece of aluminum sheet from a hardware store, cut to shape with snippers (or even a hack saw if that is all you have), bend by hand as necessary, and stick it up with body sealant. Done. Permanent fix.
I also used sheet metal. I cut out a piece of OEM ford metal from a junk truck i have and used silicone and self tapping sheet metal screws to seal one up once.
