The fuel filter is mounted by the fuel tank under a protective cover, either by the front or rear of the tank. follow the fuel lines to locate it. Is it a two port or three port fuel filter? Dan.

I just bought my filter and haven't had a chance to change it out yet. It is mounted on the front driver side corner of the gas tank under a protective cover as mentioned. Just don't know if a special tool is needed on these or not. I know on a 2005 Explorer no tool is needed.

as noted above, it's under a plastic door on the driver's side of the fuel tank. My '03 doesn't need a tool - you just pinch the two buttones on either side of the hose - and keep your face out from underneith (as I didn't last weekend)

I have a 05 Ford Expedition and it does need a special tool to remove the gas filter. You can pick these up at any local auto shop. The filter is located in front of the gas tank under a black plastic cover. You can also go to any ford local dealer and ask the parts department to print out where the fuel filter is located. My Ford local dealer did it for me. Good luck..

On my 98 Lincoln I didnt need the release tool, however on a friend's 98 it did require the tool. Go figure - oh both are 4.6.

My 03 Exp didnt need the tool either.
