if it sits long enough and warms up would it even need to fast idle? if it was still below operating temp couldn't i just remote start it, get dressed then go out and tap the accelerator to initiate fast idle when i go to leave for work?
Mine won't even fire if the throttle isn't opened a bit. Plus, you'd need a delay for the glowplugs to be on before it's started, I'm not sure if any of the remotes work like that. And engaging the fast idle after it's been running kinda defeats it's purpose, doesn't it?
You better make sure you wire it through the nuetral safety switch.
If you're lucky enough to have an easy starting IDI it'll drive through your neighbor's house in first or reverse!

Don't want to but have you ever posted anything on putting the IDI in your Chevy?
I've thought about putting one in my wife's Suburban when/if the TBI 350 ever dies. I've an Allison 545 that would be cool to put in with it.
I don't know how many times I've looked at one of your posts and just NOW realized your trucks a Chebby.
yes you can put it on wire it thru that nutral safety switch and you can put a delay on it if you buy the one for your diesel my buddy has one one his and it does great thanks

I haven't done a complete writeup on it, but I do have a thread at Oilburners.net with some pics. I'm at a stand still for another 3 weeks due to elbow surgery, so it does run but it's not complete yet. Add the 3 months of pneumonia at the beginning of the year and my whole schedule for this is out the window.
Most remote start manufacturers will recommend not installing a remote start on a manual tranny diesel.
The biggest reason is what happens if it starts in gear.
You have to bypass the clutch interlock for the remote start to work, so it is going to start in gear every time the key is turned to start, clutch down or not.
