Headlamps on reminder?

I already searched and didn't find an answer.

My truck has the keys-in-the-ignition reminder and it works (buzzes) but I've left my headlights on a couple of times in the last two weeks during the day (driving through construction zone that requires them to be on) and one of these times it's going to kill my battery.

Do the 80/86 trucks have them? If so, where is the buzzer located?

The ignition reminder is above the glove box and like I said, it does work already.

Thanks in advance.

On 1984-1986 trucks the same buzzer unit works the Ignition Key, Seatbelt and Headlamps on warning buzzer.

1980-1983 There is a seperate Buzzer unit for the seatbelts, (Green) buzzer, and for the Headlamp warning Buzzer (White Buzzer).

Both types are located above the glove box behind the dash.

To test the Buzzer, With the Headlamps on and the driver door open, power should be present at both the Red/Pink wire and Brown Wire.
If both of those wires are hot, with the headlamps on, and Driver door open at the buzzer, then the buzzer is suspected to be no good.

If the Red/Pink wire isn't hot with the door open, the courtesy lamp switch, or courtesy lamp circut is suspect. Does the Dome lamp work? etc...

If the Brown wire doesn't have power with the headlamp switch on, check the headlamp switch, or parking lamp circut for problems.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.

My dome light works, and my ignition key buzzer works so I'll have to trace the power to the buzzer with what you gave me.

Normally it wouldn't be a problem, but there is one main stretch of road that there is construction on that I have to drive nearly every day and you need to have your lights on by law.

I did this the other day (again) and drove about a 1/2 hour away with them on, and when I parked it they were still on. Luckily when I came back about an hour later to the truck, it fired right up.

I just don't want to get stranded somewhere because of something stupid like that.

In 83 you got the headlight buzzer as part of the Convenience Group (or ordered separately maybe) If you have the 12" mirror, pulse wipers, and RH vanity mirror, you have the buzzer somewhere back in there.

1980-1983 Headlamp Buzzer was optional.
Came with Convenience Group, or Light Group.

1984-1986 Buzzer was standard.

Convenience Group:

1) Intermittent Wipers
2) 12" Day Night Mirror
3) Map Pockets
4) Headlamp On Buzzer
5) Courtesy Light Switch (on Customs, or XL's)

LIGHT GROUP:
1) Underhood Worklamp
2) Glove Box Lamp
3) Ashtray Lamp
4) Under Dash Courtesy Lamps
5) Dome Lamp, with map light
6) Cargo Box Light
7) Headlamp On Buzzer
8) Courtesy lamp switch (With Customs or XL's)

My truck has the headlamp buzzer, but I would like to update it to a newer version, like on newer cars its a ding not a buzz sound, Can it be possible to do?

I'm sure its possible to do.

EDIT: May require modification of the wiring, depending on year. (see post below this one)

I like the buzzer though myself. Much louder than the ding or whine of newer vehicles.

Yep, just find yourself a dinger out of a newer truck. I have one out of an early 90's EB Bronco in my 86 diesel F250... Plug and play swap.

If you don't have that option on your truck, here's one you can buy aftermarket. Go to JC Whitney for Everything Automotive, Car, Truck, Jeep, Motorcycle & RV and type in ZX734756N in the search box.

I found this from the search option.....mine doesn't have one, there is a big hole in the top of the glove box and there is a connector with a bunch of wires. Is that where the buzzer went, and can I just pick one up at a junk yard?

Thanks

From the way you describe it,I'd say so.Mine is right on top of the glovebox on the support right behind the center piece where the ac outlets go.Yes you should be able to get one out of the junkyard, but if I were you,i'd grab a couple, just in case one is bad.

I know this is an old post, but since some other people brought it back Im just wondering where to find the buzzer or dinger on the 97-91 trucks and broncos. I looked when I was at the junkyard and cant find it. Does it look just like the one in the 80-86 trucks or is it different?
Thanks,
Blake
