When I got my truck the tranny temp sensor was mounted in the line going to the tranny cooler right after it comes out of the transmission. Is that a good spot or would it be better to move it to the plug on the drivers side?
That spot is just fine. It will show the hottest temps of the fluid compared to the other spots. The test port will be the coolest and the TFT sensor via scan tool will be in the middle

i have mine in the port on the DS.* It bottoms the gauge out at 260 after a little bit of driving.* I have checked the fluid with a infared gauge and it's running at 170* I have tried a couple of senders and same thing.* Even got another gauge same thing.* A local shop said I should put it in the pan but people here say not to a little confused because where I have it is where everyone says to put it.
Welk49, if your using an electric gauge, you need to make sure you have a good ground. Had the same problem with my autometer gauges, hooked my ground in to the one for the cig lighter, works fine now.
My temp sensor is tapped into the fwd portion of the pan. It seems to get way above 170 even in the cooler wx we have been having. During summer with high near 100F guage indicated 230F(running empty) which is almost redline on my BullyDog guage. I have the stock cooler which is weak but am wondering if this location on the pan is triggering higher than normal temp readings. Any advice or comments please.

Either your gauge is wrong or running too hot! Check the pan temp with a thermometer to check the gauge and install a better cooler.
an infared point and shoot type would be best but if you can get good contact with the pan surface the meat thermometer might work. Just don't tell your wife!
