The Highbaoys were all F250's starting in 67 (I think) up until mif 1977. They call them this because they are about 2 inches taller than the new ones from the factory. The 77 is the only year they came with the M block. Most oll had either 360's or 390's with a few 352's, 240's and 300's thrown in. Some had fulltime transfer cases and some did not evenhave a 4-low. All except crew, extended cabs, some HD's had Dana 44 front. The others had dana 60's, as well as in the rear. For tranny's there was either a 3 spd, the NP435, or the C-6.
That is one nice truck there, one of my favorites of all time. I hope to get one someday. I got the above from a magazine. There could be odd ***** because you never know what Ford did at the factory. Hope this is what you wanted.

I've got a '75 hi-boy, with only a helper leaf front and back and a 3" body lift. I've run 17-40 tires without any problems. my truck has the 44hd axle (3500lb.) front, dana 60 rear, np435 trans, and np205 t-case. good luck with your rig
The fact that its heavier that a half ton. All makes of trucks were high like this when they first started out as 4x4s because they all started as aftermaket 4x4 systems which just had a front axle, rear lift and trasfercase thrown under them. Chevy redesigned their frames in 67 so the 4x4s whould be lower and dodge did too(not sure which year though). But any ford made before 77, any chevy made before 67 and any International made could all be called high-boys.
So really their is no such thing as a high-boy. I dont call my 75 international a high-boy even though its just as high as a ford.
Sorry to differ, "Hi-Boy" is a term that has been associated with these particular truck since I first got involved with 4x4's around 1976. Can't say where it came from, but it is generally accepted by the four-wheeling community in general as synonomous with the early F-250's. But if you feel the need to call your IHC a "Hi-Boy", go ahead, nothing wrong with pretending!
It sounds like somebody is jealous. Here's what I know. High-boys frames were narrower and can fit 36X12.50X16.5 tires, I've seen it done. The 36 are tight but they DO NOT!!!!!!!!! rub. 35's would be no problem. This is no doubt my favorite truck of all time. Two of my best friends have these trucks. Ones a 74 F250 with a 360(soon to be 390) with a auto C6 and the others a 75 with 351M or possibly 428 and a 4 speed. In my opinion these were the best trucks ever made period.
I have a 77 F250 Highboy, complete with 38.5 super swampers Dana 60 rear and a Dana 60 up front witch took alittle work to do. C6 trans, NP205 transfercase. The truck came with a 400m but that boat anchore is getting replaced with a 460 soon. The truck is awsome and never let me down.
hey groundhawg, Im not sure about the yr. hiboy you have, but I own a 68 250 hiboy.I believe the hiboys had more arch in the springs from the factory.I know a ford hiboy guru, he claims the 67-72 highboys could handle 38 inch tires, stock?I have seen late 70's hiboys with 35" swampers, with no lift.In the 70's the frames were narrower, the 67-72 trucks had the same frames as the standard trucks.Im also told that high boys had higher load rating springs, and in 67-72 models it was an option package, i.e,pushbar, rollbar, slightly bigger tires, and different interior package. Dont quote me on any of this, Im not absolutely sure, but if you find out more, please send me a line.Oh, my highboy has 8"National springs, 3"body lift, 3"shackle lift, 44"Swamper Boggers, rebuilt dana 24, dana 60's(5.17 gears) and the best ford engine ever-540 HP 390 T-Bird engine!

You mensioned they all came with 360's or 390's but the highboys actually didn't come with the 390 from the factory so all highboys with a 390 had an engine swap. There were no 390's, 429's, or 460's available in the highboys.
