Rats - the last day to drive the vintage has come...and gone. Spent the day moving the iron from the front garage to the shop. Everyones all tucked in now.
'28 Model a Roadster PU - only one that isn't mine. Belonged to Hubert Britton. Donny Fairfax put it together for him (?). The kids didn't want it, even though it meant a lot to him (it was made on his Birthday!), so asked me to sell it for them. Sold yesterday to a guy in MosseJaw - he's picking up Friday. Lovely truck. Mines the 46 Merc - a good runner/driver, in it's original 2-tone: Green and rust.
Your 46 looks to be in nice shape.
Where was the 28 advertised and what did it sell for?
Is Don doing restoration work any more, he`s very good at it and very talented.
The Model A was advertised "world wide", on Ebay, on Hemmings (Online in Sept and in Print in October) and it sold to the only guy who called. A guy from MooseJaw got it for 18K - tough times. He owns Gas Bars.
Donny doesn't know anyone at the moment restoring anything. You're right though, he's talented - very mechanically inclined and can weld.
My 46 is an excellent runner/driver. Bought it for a 'yard truck' and it's already hauled rocks and dirt. Gonna put an original heater and some wipers in it this winter - maybe be able to drive it longer next year.
Hard to name my fave - I'm a car guy and am just happy to have several I really like - but I've always been partial to Fords.
I was talking to a older fella restoring odd rare trucks. apparently for rarity the earliest Mercurys being the 1946/47. There were only 1500 built originally, probably less then 50 left today, all fixed up that truck is worth ALOT, alot more then the cars. But the cars are damn nice yes.
Interesting SnowKing! But unless I loose all in the market downturn, that'll only be of interest to the widow and children as I plan on keeping it as is!
it is purdy as is, I hope you still take steps to prevent rust
Intersting you say that - I just expalined it all on your 46 thread (2nd one?) - I'm doing a POR15 and ZeroRust comparison on the 46 (the "Old Man"). I have a 'replacement' tailgate that has thick, but very even, surface rust on it. As well, I am going to do the rails UNDER the plywood box floor (where it retains moisture). I will use POR and ZR on each half of both of these. In the spring we'll see if there's any differences!
