So I unhooked my "recently replaced" idle air controller and it didn't affect the engine's idle at all. I know the IAC is good like i said it's new. What do I need to do to lower the idle so the IAC controls it.
First you gotta check for vacuum leaks. The IAC is just a controlled vacuum leak.
Second is the throttle closing all the way, pull off the throttle cable and see if the idle changes.
Last there should be an adjuster/stop for the throttle so it can close more.
I gather you have an idle problem so you changed the IAC?
You may have a bad TPS sensor, did you pull the codes? If not do that ASAP and you could also measure the TPS with a multimeter to ensure it doesn't have any dead spots and is within spec.
First of all, NEVER adjust the idle manually. When the throttle plates are closed, they should be airtight.
If you have a new IAC valve, and unplugging it didn't kill the truck, then air is getting into the plenum from somewhere. Check for a vacuum leak.
Your throttle body could probably use a good cleaning, too. Take it off and clean all the carbon out. You'll be very pleased at how well your truck idles when you're done.
