IAC or Not
OK guys, this one has me stumped. I am looking at an 06 F150 with a 5.4 for a friend of mine. The motor will only idle about 500 rpm so dies when in gear or if the AC is on. My Modus gives me a fault on the IAC and provides an IAC functional test, which the pickup fails. Additionally, I am provided with a test spec of 3 to 6 omhs on the IAC solenoid. On the left side on the intake, directly in line with the butterfly is a control solenoid that fits down into a passageway that leads inside the intake. This control solenoid has an air tube connected to the top and a two wire pigtail lead. When I test across these two leads I find an open circuit. So here I am thinking the problem is the IAC, I have found the IAC and it had failed the test spec. Now the stumpy part, when I call Ford for parts, they tell me this pickup does not have an IAC.
Anyone got any idea what this control solenoid it? What it does? Does the throttle control motor have an independent IAC control circuit in it? Any idea what my problem is?

I do not think there is an IAC on this engine. It is drive by wire and the PCM controls the idle by moving the throttlebody blade. I would try clearing the codes and cleaning the throttlebody. They often get build-up on the back side which can cause the blade to stick and cause idle issues and trouble codes.
