Eliminating wind vent window.
I would like to elimanate the wing vent windows on my '53. I'm looking for some advice from someone who has done this. Is there a source for the side windows that are already cut for this and is there a kit available for the tracks? I am thinking the glass is the main problem and the track system can be made if necessary. I am leaning toward going the home made way as much as possible. I also think I can rig some power windows from something else. I won't really know until I get into the doors but I'm just planning ahead right now. Also, is the seal that goes inside window frame available in continueous lengths?

A number of places sell the kits. Mid Fifty has both the kits and individual pieces as well. They have a good write-up on solid side windows in their catalog on page 82 for the 53-55.

I thought about changing the sides on my ’56 to solid since the lamination is starting to separate. By the time I looked at the cost for the kit, power windows, and switches, a little angel popped on my shoulder and asked if I was crazy. I gave in (partially) and ordered new vents, sides, and Big Back Window in Double Dark (limo) instead.
Mid Fifty sells tempered glass except for the BBW.<o></o>
By the way my name is also Dave; I use edzakory since an Asian doctor told me my buttocks and face looked edzakory alike. It’s no fun growing old; well, maybe a little.

So close to Sedona and you missed nature’s wonderland. USA Today voted it the most beautiful place in <st1:country-region w:st="on">America</st1:country-region>;<st1:city w:st="on"><st1>Pittsburgh</st1></st1:city> was second. I'll take a look at that. It will have A/C. I don't leave home without it.

Hi Dave,
I get it now... edzakory rike mine are...
Yeah, when I got to Glendale the guy at the airport asked me if we were going to stop in Sedona on the way back. I said no because we were going to go down to I-10 and go back across Texas to I-20 and then over to Atlanta and pick up a truck to go back to Marietta, Ohio. From what I have heard, I missed an interesting place. Maybe I'll see it on another trip. I move clasics and customs, CLICK HERE, to see my stuff. I try to limit my runs so I don't use up all my life clock time left. I to am old and retired. I am only about a hundred miles from Pittsburgh. Right now I am spending the month of October visiting my son near Atlanta. We just set up our camper in his driveway and wait for him to ask us to leave... Just kidding... Call me crazy, but I like it where I am and I don't have the ambition to move. It would cost a fortune in just the fuel to move all the machinery and tools in my shop alone, not to mention all the vehicles.
I will check out the Mid Fifty stuff. I really only need the cut to fit side glass and the flexible seal channel that fits in the window frame. I really don't think a complete kit will do it for me because I want to integrate aerodynamic RC mirrors something like that which was used on the 2007 Taurus. That would take up the bottom half corner of the area where the wing vent window was.
I have a book on top chopping that has a section on glass and they say you can't cut the tempered glass the use in the side windows now. I guess that means I would have to use laminated glass like the windshields are made of.
I'm pretty confident that I can fab up all the guides and tracks plus power windows from stuff taken from donor vehicles. I also have the electrical knowledge to do the wiring and I have plenty of sources for all the rocker switches. ou can go to my truck site by clicking on the link in my signature. This is what I am using in place of a gallery.
Nice to meet you Dave...

I wanted the same thing, and as stated above I thought the kits looked pretty cheap. I went ahead and built my own filler panel. Frist I had a chanel bent up to match what I need for my window felts, tacked it in place on top front of D. piller and bolted the bottom with a bracket to the inside of door. then I filled from the chanel to the corner of the door, inside and out.
I've seen some that just filler the whole thing and changed the shape and look of the front piller of the door, I didn't care for that, so the way I did it I was able to mantain the look and shape of the front door piller.
I have a glass shop who can cut my glass for me,for a custom fit.
I'll include a pic, sorry it not the best but all I have avialable now.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I got the idea when looking at my '06 SD and my '05 Taurus. Of course finding a mirror that will look right in that space will be a bit of a problem. I like the work you did that I saw in your picture.
I also have a well equipped and established glass shop near my home that has been in business for over fifty years, and I am sure they would be able to do about anything I need but I haven't talked to them about it. So long as I can get the glass cut and the window felt seal I need, I will have no problems. They can probably provide both. No offense to the vintage supply houses, but I'd rather deal locally whenever possible. They have always treated me right on window work for my other vehicles.
Have you found the mirrors for your truck yet? If so, I'd like to see a picture of them or a cataloge reference or link for them.
That visor on your cab looks pretty good too. The top of the picture is cut off so I couldn't really tell but it looked as though you had molded and integrated it into the roof. I would be interested in seeing and learning more about that.

No haven't found mirrors yet, still lookin.
The Visor, Yes its welded to the cab on the top and drip rail on the bottom. it 16 or 18 gauge I had it temp tacked in place for a couple of months before I made it perm. just to make sure I liked it. I then took 3/16 round stock and ran it arround the front edge then over the door and down the back a wayys to make a some what small drip rail type thing.
there are more pics in my gallery (Body work)

Keep me posted on those mirrors when you find what you want. I went out to look at your gallery. You have done some really nice work there. What is the tortion bar suspension front IFS from?
On the visor... I assume it is a complete fabrication of your own, right??? Does it vent out at the top?
Oh yeah, your shop looks really neat and organized. No matter what I do I hav so much stuff in mine it looks as though it was all shot in to there with a cannon. I need more space but I don't want to spend the money I don't have.

I was going to put mine back together without wind-wings....
I think I'm going to keep them.
I have always liked them. Changing yours is easy with all the kits available. Your glass is flat so any glass shop can hook you up.
Cheers,
Rick

The IFS is a 78 Cordoba, I didn't use the kit, just kinda muddled though it on my own.
The Visor, yup all my creation. No its not vented, it should be ok its plenty stout, and it really isn't that big. I Hope we'll see
Some of the old pics are in my two car garage where I started my truck project, the newer ones where the walls are white, thats my new shop, attached but totally seperate to the garage.
In this shop is Only My Truck stuff and tools..and once in while a Harley or two
I love it.. fully heated, and it stays pretty cool in the summer.
