ORIGINAL running boards (the ones the truck came with when new) Have what I call a two piece "inlay" near the front fender outside edge. The repops AND later fomoco sold running boards do NOT have this "inlay". I can spot a repop a mile away. I would never use one on a stocker build, but for a rod or driver they are great.
I know they ain't gonna win any 1st place...or "Best-Of-Show"...trophies
the way their sittin' right NOW...but hey...for the price...
I think with a little time behind the GAS-AX & MIG, with a hand-full
of new steel I can bring 'em back to a "Henry-approved" like-new condition
in no-time...
I must be spoiled but those running boards look to be a lot rougher than I would tackle. Are original boards that hard to come by in MI or are you just looking for a challenge?
I come across running boards on occasion and don't pay too much attention to them because there isn't any real market for them here where there "is no salt on the roads". What would be a reasonable price for a set in the Rust Belt? I'm not looking to go into business but if I come across a set here and know that someone else could use them then I would be more apt to pick them up. The last extra set that I had I sold to a local guy for $200, they were straight with no rust or tears and had a set of the FOMOCO alunimun step plates mounted.
I find running boards as well and still need to get with a buddy to buy his... The problem I have is not finding the boards, but finding someone to paint them to match my truck and do it for less than the cost of the running boards.
It's going to take a lot of patience to restore those, especially if the rot extends beyond the low areas.
If you are doing a resto, I'd suggest trying to get a better set from one of our dry coast brothers, or if doing a hot rod version I'd be tempted to cut the tops off and put smooth tops on them.

I wish I had a pic to post for you.

So...mine are original and in good shape? I am sort of stunned. I just assumed they were repops.
Mine look just like the ones in the picture. The "inlay" is on both of them.
Thanks for starting this thread Rockher_man and thanks for answering it Kevin.
