Cruise Control buttons

Simple question for anyone....what is the actual process to remove and replace the button blanks with cruise control switches on an 05 F150 XL? I have the large, square blanks. Do I have to remove the airbag? The dealer wants $45 to program the computer and I can get the switchs for $20. Can't belive it is as simple as it seems to add cruise to this vehicle.
Thanks

depends on if your truck has the wiring in the steering wheel or not. some 04's don't have it. seems that most 05+ trucks already have the wiring

either way, you need the entire CC assembly to install on your current steering wheel. and if you don't have the wiring already, I believe you need an entire steering wheel

sorry, but it's as easy as just of replacing blanks. do a search. some members here have done the swap and did a pretty good write-up with part #'s and what all was involved

It would be as easy as getting a steering wheel off ebay and taking it in and having the dealership install and then program, thats what i did with my 04. After i fought with countless people that didnt beleive me that it was that easy to install cruise control. I even had the wheel and instructions in hand of how to do it and they just didnt beleive me. Worked great afterwards. I think all the new style F150's in 04 have the wiring harness already in the column, the tricky part is removing the airbag, thats why i just let the dealership do it.

that probably is the easiest route. I think the OP wants to just install the CC buttons using his existing steering wheel

I personally would do it xjcamero89's way. Especially if you can snap up a FX4 Lux/Lariat/KR steering wheel. Then you get leather wrapped, CC and the radio control functions. I love the radio functions on my steering wheel...enough that I won't consider a vehicle without them.

I may look for a steering wheel then. From what I have read my 05 should have the wiring already there for this. Thanks for the help.

Hey one more question. I have a 06 XL, what is the part number for the cruise control buttons or does someone have a prefered vendor that sells them?
