I believe the conventional knowledge is that the largest tire you can put on there leaving the truck stock is 33's. Anything bigger will cause rubbing. 35's will fit with the 2" leveling kit.
not a chance, i have 35s on mine and there is no way they would fit under the truck without some lift and even trimming may be needed on the plasic on the bumper to make the 35s under the truck.
why couldn't you fit a larger tire with the 6" lift over the 3 inch level kit?? i mean, its an extra 3 inches of lift there, why not fit a larger tire??

you can fit a bigger tire, but they rub badly. there are a few guys running 37's with a 6" lift on F-150online. they say the rubbing is horrible.
the 6" lift gives you better articulation and better CV joint angles while allowing 35" tires...and that's about it. the lift itself will allow the truck to do better offroad without damage. vs. a leveling kit which is good for the mild to semi-moderate stuff, but should not really be used with hardcore 4x4 action
the 2.5" leveling kit creates enough space to stuff 35" tires, but just barely. that's why some tires work great, and others are nothing but rub. a 34" tire is the ideal tire for a leveling kit. it's good for a mild - moderate 4x4 and pavement princesses. it does the job cheaply and safely...but you get what you pay for if you want to play
and a 4" lift kit is useless. you can fit 35" tires with it also...but why spend $1k to $1.5 to achieve what a $70 part can do?...or why not spend another $200 and get an extra 2" of height?
it's strange, and I agree with you 96sherm...I don't get it either. but that is the way our trucks work
