Question Ball joint preventative maintenance

Hey fellas,
Relative noob to these forums... Did a search, but can't find any answers, hoping for some help...

The scheduled maintenance guide for the '01 f-150 directs you to inspect and lubricate the 4x2 ball joints every 15K miles. I'm at that point and have a Chilton's manual (I know, I know) which depicts the relative locations, but there are no grease fittings, or even plugs, anywhere near the ball joints... Did Ford even put that in, or am I searching in vain? Thanks....

'01 Ford F-150 7700 4x2
5.4L
~83K miles

If there are no fittings or plugs to put a fitting in then they are not serviceable. I know 4wd's have a hand full or less of zerks on the whole truck, almost everything is non-serviceable/ greased for life.

the factory units dont have zerks. when they fail at 50-100,000 miles, you can install aftermarket that have zerks. then you grease every 15k miles. same with universal joints, tie rod ends, etc.

Thank you both. I'm sure someone in the know was laughing when they put that in. "I wonder how many monkey boys will go scratching their heads when they can't find any zerks...."

On my '99, when the ball joints started to squeak my father and I drilled and tapped them and installed grease fittings.
Now, I just hit the fittings with a couple pumps of the greasegun at every oil change and they no longer squeak.

317,000 miles on mine and I have NEVER changed my ball joints.
Did replace my u-joints with "jerk" ha, ha fittings.
Never a failure.

IT is weird some go through ball joints in 50K and others never go bad, I have 220K+ on mine. Same with the tierods.

I have close 100k on mine and the ball joints are holding strong even with bigger torsion keys and tires in there. My tierods and sway bar links take a beating though, replaced them twice since I bought my truck back in 04.
