My 1995 F-150 project truck is about done. I made it a budget trail rig, but I have one small problem. The truck was previously rolled before I bought it, and everybody who worked at the water district that had the truck can't remember if the air bag was deployed or not. Most of them think it probably still has a bag in it. I know the light flashes intermittently. What I want to do is just either take the airbag out completely or make it where it can't go off. My futuren plan is to put a steering wheel off of the same year 3/4 or 1 ton so i looks stock. I am not worried about legal issues because this truck never see pavement. Oh, & it is a XL with no cruise & i removed the stock bumper & replaced it with a homemade pipe bumper. Any ideas? Thanx & have a great Monday!
Well what is the best way to take the bag out? I really don't want to to deploy it if I don't have to because that white powder makes such a mess. I've had the battery disconnected for about 18 hrs
You should be able to just un-bolt it from the steering wheel now that battery is dis-connected for 18 hours, or more. The module is under the dash, in my truck it is blue/black plastic box about the size of a checkbook, or so. I would not deploy the airbag, you could sell it, and get some money for other parts.

Thanx, but where exactly is this module? Do you just unplug it? How do you remove the horn cap?
The module is under dash to the right of the steering shaft. Mine was wrapped in a foam covering, you should be able to just unplug it. The horn buttons, and air bag are 1 unit, and there are 4 (if I remember correctly) 8mm, or 10mm bolts holding it to the wheel on the back side of the wheel towards the dash. So, you will have to fix new horn buttons if you want a horn.

one hour would be enough.
the air bag can be triggered by static electricity and must always be kept away from your face.
I appreciate it, My next question is tah willa steering wheel off of a 93 f-350 bolt up? And also how do you stop that annoying beeping sound? I unbolted the bag and had to cut the wires nleading to it because the plug wouldn't come undone. I left the module intact. will unplugging it stop the beeping?
Maybe, it mightbe coming from the door open beeper in about the same location as the air bag control module. Might has to let it beep, and make sure which module it is coming from.
The steering wheel, I am not sure about. I have never replaced wheel from an air bag to non air bag truck before. I would GUESS that it would work though.
Thanx for your time. I got everything working right. I even took the airbag light out of the dash, so when I replace the steering wheel, nobody will be able to tell it had an airbag in it.
they are quite simple to take out ... and easy to deploy try hooking up a 6 foot cord to it and touchin the other end on a battery .....BANG !!! ive done 4 in the last week
amazing force .... set a gas can ontop and it blew it to bits.... doesnt make me feel safe having one in my truck
For the steering wheel, yes one from a '93 should fit in your '95. My '96 has a steering wheel and column from an '89 bronco in it and there were no difference between the two.
