Has anyone ever had a 7.3L PS act like it is FLOODED? It starts OK, a little white smoke, but when you try to accelerate a temendous amount of black smoke comes out. Could it have anything to do with the EBPV?
If it's not getting air, then you'll lose all power and just sit there and smoke like you are doing now. Best case scenario is you blew an intercooler boot off. Worst case is your turbo tanked.
It could be the EBPV, but you would hear the "airplane" noise out of the exhaust pipe, and it would go away once the engine warmed up.
Try taking off ther filter and rev it, just to test if the filter is clogged with dirt don't drive it to far that way. Just as a test, if it stops smoking it needs a new filter if not you may have a few stuck injectors.
If the ebpv is stuck closed, you will be hard pressed to hit 30 mph. The truck will barely go up hills, and the only way to hit 30 is on a slight down hill. My 02 did that a few years ago, and I gutted it. It kept doing it so it forced me to gut it. Eventually it would open up, but it could take 10+ minutes, which is a serious problem merging in pittsburg, pa traffic. And that was when it happend to me and caused the most trouble. When its stuck, you will have absolutely no power. You can unplug it, and it will default open, but if its still stuck, that doesnt help you too much.
Try fiding a scanner to test the injectors, I have a bad injector but it gets stuck closed not open. You may have an injector that staying stuck open longer than it should.
We ran the diagnostic on the injectors and they showed fine. Let me back up a little. The truck was running if you would let it warm up, TOTALLY befoe I took it to the mechanic. He said it showed 11 codes so he cleared them all then my current problem started. Now the only code that keeps coming back is the one about the EBPV.
