Does anyone have a definitive answer about EGR operation from the tunes off Spartan's online archive? Have a little on-off smoke puffing issue on take off and need to know if its on or off.
I've asked this a few times and most people say Spartan has turned EGR back on with their standard tunes because it helps mileage a little.
yeah i wonder if my tunes are off or on. when i ordered my SCT i left it up to him and he didn't say what he did.
but i think it matters how old or new your tune is or is you asked for it to be on or off.
Two questions regarding the Spartan archived tunes...
Within the last hour I finally won a XCal2 off Ebay, so I'm anxiously waiting its arrival. I'm not sure which strategy my truck is running (VXANo, VXAP1, or VXAP2).
1) Will the XCal2 be able to tell me which strategy my truck is running?
2) Which of the archived tunes are safe for my engine without head studs, which ones should be avoided since I don't have studs, and which ones are somewhere in between?
from previous posts (do a search) you will find that EGR is OFF on these files and only on if you call and specifically ask for one with it on. Unless this has changed since then, I don't know.
1. yes your sct will show your strategy code
2. According to someone who knows (I think it was their injector builder), All listed tunes are stock headbolt safe. I do remember is that high Cyl. Pressure was not to be a concern when choosing a tune for my stock truck when I asked about it.
The ultra comp file will lift your heads if you don't have studs. Any tune that is put on this truck can have the ability to lift the heads, especially the ones over 100hp+. The deciding factor will be the drivers right foot
... The deciding factor will be the drivers right foot
I'll bet that's true too. I'm always one to err on the side of caution when it comes to my vehicles. However, my cruise control will do what it's programmed to do when cruising down the interstate 80mph with my 4000lb boat in tow. When I hit a big hill coming out of the Missouri River valley in South Dakota, I don't want to be smelling coolant. Know what I mean?
I'll definitely keep your comment in mind. Thanks!
I'd stay away from Ultra Comp and Hybrid Race. I've run MSE for a while and now on ASE with no puking or other signs of problems, and I have a heavy right foot
I too am interested in knowing the real answer to this also. I am running the Spartan tunes in my 05 and based on how much louder the motor is, my money says the EGR is off. Sounds louder like it did when I tried running with my EGR unplugged. BUT, I haven't seen any codes yet and I am checking after every trip.
