I finally decided to do that damn "Paint Your Headlights Black" Mod.
I got the casing seperated, did alot of taping and careful sanding
...and then it happened
I was hanging the reflective part up to paint and the string broke. Reflective part fell roughly 3 ft and broke into 3 peices. Luckily most of it stayed in 1 whole peice and only 2 smaller sections seperated.
While I was cussing, my wife came up and told me it was time. What time? Time to go to the Hospital she said. Headlight was promptly forgotten.
Here are my little presents that arrived at 0352 this morning. Identical twin girls. They're in the NICU for the night, but I get them back tomorrow...I hope. Both are healthy, but a little bit early, so the Docs said it's better safe than sorry.
After all the fun, I just got home about an hour ago and noticed that damn headlight sitting on the garage floor. I've been up 40+ hours by now and I ain't thinking straight. So I dug out the bottle of crazy glue and went to work.
Whats the worst that can happen if I super glue it? It either works or it doesn't. This is exactly the sort of thing I was worried about before starting this mod. But the initial look is pretty awesome. It should look pretty awesome when I can get back to it in a few days.
teaser pic of the reflective part after glueing and flat black paint.
later guys...I'm gonna go crash and I think I'm gonna be out for a few days if these kids are anything like the 1st kid.
Second, those are going to be some nice looking headlights. nothing wrong with a little glue on these trucks, if it wasn't for glue holding together trucks then there wouldn't be a chevy on the road (well duct tape helps too. lol)
Congratulations! Congratulations! Tylus I expect that your posting rate will go down now that the twins have arrived. You will need to sleep sometime.
I haven't examined the lights to see just what they are made of but if they are plastic(what else) I would try MEK. That's Methyl Ethel Keytone I use it in a needle oiler bottle to chemically weld plastics together. It is available at hardware, paint and chemical stores. The oiler bottle I got at a hobby shop. It will dissolve plastic and allow the edges to bond. I use it to join Plexiglas together.
did you use the MEK alone or with glue? For those who need it MEK can be found where plumbing supplies are sold, in our area it is labeled under brand name OATY PVC cleaner yellow can, not to be confused with primer (purple), I've never used it without glue though. TYLUS BEAUTIFUL BABYS
Congratulations on the baby girls , we had to deal with the same thing my daughtor came early too, but it was a good thing because the emblical cord was wrapped 4 times around her neck. I see you decided to paint your reflector flat black right? when i did my headlights the first time on my civic i painted them flat black they looked great but but in direct sunlight i found they looked odd kinda grayish-brownish (almost like it was dirty) and i wanted it black. and after awhile it annoyed me to the point of taking them apart and repainting them gloss black. if you havent yet, make sure you get off all the old glue off before putting them back together. when i did mine i found it alot easier to heat up the glue then you can just peel it off. i used clear silicone to reseal mine.
Congrats again on the healthy babies,
Thanks everybody. We're back at home with 1 kiddo. 1 girl had to stay overnight for observation. hoping for tomarrow.
I finished up the lights and got some pics between kid sitting. should be able to post some pics up later tonight. I took about 1,000 pics over the weekend and have some sorting to do.
now to let the silicone cure so I can re-install into the truck
