EGR Performance Code PO404, Replace or Clean EGR
Well today I put 600 miles on my 05 F-350 and on the way back from the trip the Check Engine Light came on. So I went to the shop and pulled the codes. The Code I got was PO404 (EGR Performance). So I am guessing that the EGR valve is gunked up and sticking. So what would be the best way to go about this situation. Oh just a FYI I was towing a three horse trailer empty and averaged 10.5 MPG.
Also I am curious during what conditions the EGR valve opens, because if the intake manifold pressure is higher then the Exhaust back pressure, and the EGR valve opens then some boost will escape out the exhaust right? So obviously the EGR valve would not open at WOT (wide open throttle) because there is not enough back pressure or is there due to the pressure needed to turn the turbine of the Turbo.

The exhaust pressure is higher than the intake pressure. Your code indicates either an EGR valve or a sticking turbo.
