Jeeps

AMC should never have been in charge of wiring anything, especially a Wagoneer. On the plus side, Summit's 18circuit universal harness works well. Just that I now am spending two days rewiring this thing nose-to-tail.

Good choice UT! Id love to have an old wagoneer or J-10 or 20 for a ride. Cant hardly find one whether its junked or half decent around here. Then I was looking at a CJ7, SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESH! They want $4k for one that needs a lot of restoration work. People are out of their minds anymore

Soooooooooooooooooooooo, are you saying $4k was too high or good priced? Just to get it back to factory specs would have been around $2500 worth of parts, the windshield where the hinge is was rusted bad, the floor pans were BADLY rusted, the frame and body were ate out too! Only good thing was the engine!!

what you mean the 'we dont need no stinkin fuse box' wiring harness?

My bro and I had a passel of '72' Gladiators - I say '72' cuz Jeep was kinda laisse faire on when they titled them. Each one got those add on fuse panels and a rewire, as well as ditching that 32 amp alt. 32 amps. geesh. good old fashioned gm 65s fit right in...

run the heater blower and the wipers at night and you dont have power to get on it...

Maybe it's just the unfused wire for the solenoid- melted from the column to the firewall, or the melted taillight wiring, or the non-functional dome light system, or...........

It's just annoying, my F250 is older and has more electrical functions than this thing, even only having five fuses for everything. This Wagoneer was just poorly designed. They hadn't even started using electronic ignition by the time this one was built in 75.

I think the 72 thing was that they had built a ton that didn't sell because of the gas shortage, then just kept renumbering them until they sold.

I believe Chrysler was the first to go electronic ignition back in 1973.

Most of the other Detroit Iron were using it by 1975.

AMC/Jeep didn't do it across the board until 78.
Almost have it done, just need to wire the wiper motor and heater.

Jeep can kiss my hairy ***- AMC and their mix of off-the-shelf non-sealed connectors, proprietary connectors on the cluster that are SOLDERED to a FLAT CIRCUIT BOARD- Stupid AMC.

Had a 78 cj5 for 20 years and it was bullet proof. Very little wiring issues even though it was in the open a lot......top down.
Rebuilt it finally with a kevelar reinforced fiberglass body with a new chevy wiring kit.
304 v8......one of the most rollover prone vehicles out there.
It was full of juice......stock.

Older AMC/Jeeps were contract wired by GM and Ford owned units, fwiw. That being said, I have seen replacement harnesses on recalls wired incorrectly (by Delphi? GM) that set the Jeep on fire as soon as the key was turned.
