Ok, here is an update on this at this point.
Went out and bought a coil pack. I check the resistivity of the new pack and it read .9. I went through each coil pack and checked the resistance. I found number 5 to be close but a bit sporatic. So I replaced that one. Assuming the whole resistance thing. Well at first it seemed ok, no check engine light. Read my codes now a MAF low code comes up. Clean the maf again, didn't resolve the problem. Anyways since it seemed better decided to try it on the road. NOPE... sputter came back.
Now the only thing I can come up with at this point is to try moving the rest of the coil packs around to see if its another pack or not. And to buy a new maf sensor and while I'm at it replace the Map sensor as well. So at that point I will have replaced the 3 main sensors for air/fuel measurement. I really didn't think this was gonna be this difficult to troubleshoot.
mine has the same random sputter. no codes and no pending codes. the last 2 times, it was a bad coil. now, i just ordered a full set of 10 accel coils to fix it.
Well so far for the past two days its been ok. After moving around some coil packs it was when I changed out #7 that it seemed smoother. Keep your fingers crossed, and thanks guys for your help
ITS BACK!!
Spoke to soon yesterday. Outside temp this morning is between 20-30 degrees. It started this sputtering thing. I did get another code
This time PO355- ignition coil E primary/secondary malfunction. If "E" is the number 5 cyl then this is the one that has the new ignition coil on it. Furthest back on the passengers side.
I know this has been discussed before, but if you have good relations with a Ford dealer, let them hook it up to their Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS).
You may have to get into a situation where you put the engine under load - like hooking it up to a trailer - so that the "sputter" can rear its ugly head.
When I get mine tested, the costs have varied from $45 to $65 depending on how long it took for the problem to surface. The longest time its been hooked up is about 45 minutes...and, as you know, it only takes a few minutes to replace the COP.
my guess that price would be for 8. thats $360 and with a tad bit of a discount might just be $339. just to let you know, there is a company in florida, REBELPERFORMANCE, on ebay too, that i got 10 brand new accel coils for $224 shipped to my door. i got them and they are exactly what he said they are. brand new in the box.... sure beats the junk china made coils and also beats the factory ford coils too.
