I'm purdy sure the intake manifold is going to have to come off for a antifreeze leak behind the engine area, how easy is that? I know the fuel line will have to be de-pressurized, but where does it unscrew at? And what about the injectors? Just unplug them? Anything else? Could I possibly get a part number on the intake manifold gaskets? I can't hardly find a set that I know for sure are the correct ones... Thanks for any help btw its a 99 4.6l f150
IF the intake manifold does have to come off, you will need a special tool to disconnect the fuel lines, it is available at most parts stores. The fuel injectors can stay in place, just remove all the wiring from the injectors and any other sensors that sit on top of the engine. You will also need to drain some or all of your coolant (may as well drain all while your at it) because the thermostat sits lower than the top of the radiator. The belt and alternator will also have to be removed to get the intake out. If you do have to remove the intake manifold, plan on putting new plugs and wires in at the same time. The plugs are very easy to replace when the intake manifold is out of the way. Let us know what you find out!!
lol well I just got your answers....after I did it...my fault huh. Anyways. we got it off today, wish I had drained the block first....stupid mistake I know, but nothing a vaccum can''t fix hopefully. I bought the gaskets from advance auto for like $15 for all 3 intake manifold gaskets. Also gonna change the thermostat while i''m at it, maybe to a colder one. And gonna replace both heater hoses, think it''s a good idea to do away with the metal pipe coming off the water pump and put heater hose there? That would eliminate me having to worry about that pipe, and also wouldn''t have to go buy a new pipe and wait that long for it to come in. It was a HECK of a job though. I just took off the gas line and pulled the injectors out and set it to the side, worked purdy well? Thanks
Oh, I think it ended up being a bad gasket at the back of the intake manifold, it was cracked.... I'm going to go ahead and replace the heater hoses and thermostat and all that though...
Good to see it's going pretty well. I would replace the thermostat with the stock temp instead of a colder one. The computer will try and make up the difference with you tricking it.
