Ran to Talladega and back(from New Orleans)yesterday and my '02 7.3 ran great, millage and performance was outstanding.......then it started to loose power, milage went away(big time) and the pipe went from clean to black.Black smoke even at idle.Injector control module? '02 7.3 with 77,000 miles. Thanks,Bob
Caused by excessive fuel for the amount of air drawn into the cylinders. Some black smoke on hard accelerate or at higher altitudes is normal. Excessive black smoke could result from restricted intake or exhaust, inoperative leaking or weak turbo, intake hose(s) leaks, leaking or worn injectors, fuel return or supply restriction, stuck Exhaust Back Pressure Regulator valve or solenoid. Also PCM inputs such as BARO MAP ICP or EBP sensors.
F350-6,Thanks for the reply..Air filter is new,air box modified to allow more than twice the stock volume, turbo boost 25+ lbs(dp Tuner chip)No back pressure valve,Retrun line is new with Aeromotive regulator set at 65 lbs.(stock reg. removed)Won't be able to scan it till Mon.This is excessive smoke all the time not just upon exceleration.I'm guessing IDM,temp sensor or bad injector. It's only got 77K on it.I hope it's the temp sensor($)but I'm not sure if PSD go full rich when the sensor goes bad. Thanks again,SemperFi

How did you modify the air box? Cut holes in the bottom of it? You might try disconnecting the MAP sensor to see if that makes a difference. That should cause the PCM to infer default values for the MAP sensor and may clear up the smoke.
