Hello everybody

I am about to change my injectors for a 94 idi 7.3 diesel econoline , looking for replacement option, i found diferent codes for the injectors on the internet , for my truck aplies code E (92 1/2 to 94 7.3 idi). What happened if i install and older code on my truck and what is the main diference between the Code E an other older codes of injectors.

Code E is for your engine, it is a NON turbo Performance and Emissions engine. The injectors are designed to work with your IP for optimum performance. The breaking pressures of the older injectors are too low......"when the injector opens and fires fuel" incorrect pressures will cause timing and performance problems.

You didn't say if this was a turbo motor or not, but the turbo injectors are code "G" and the pump is a 5070 and the non turbo are "E" injectors, and a 5013 pump.

Here is some old info.......
There are three different injectors used in 6.9 & 7.3L engines - one for the 1984-1992 6.9's & 7.3's, one for the 1992 1/2 - 1994 engines that Navisatar referred to as the "P&E" (performance & emissions) engines and one for the 1994 turbocharged engines.

In reviewing the drawings I see that in addition to to different nozzle opening pressure for the injectors, there are a number of differences between the nozzles including:

different pintle diameters, pintle bore clearance, valve overlap length,valve extension etc. all which result in different valve lift vs flow characteristics and therefore result in the different injectors for the different engine applications."

Now is very clear the relationship with injectors an the injection pump

Mark, what about the BB and D injectors? I have D-code in my 1990, but I ain't sure if they're original to the engine or not. I do know that the IP has been replaced not too long before I obtained truck, however I have no idea what vehicle the pump came from - where is the 5013/5070 code located on the IP? My buddy with an '86 6.9 has BB injectors.

 

PLC 7.3 is Pete, the reply was an email he had recieved from Mark.

1990 thru 1992 injector code of B, BB, C or D.

Manual transmission IP is DB2-4821
E4OD IP is DB2-4817

The IP number should be on a small plate on the passenger side of the IP.

 

Okay, Pete it is, thanks for clearing it up Dave. So I guess I'll have to find my telescopic mirror, cause there ain't no way I see that label with the pump in the truck. And while we're at this nice picture, what's the other screw on the throttle lever for, adjusting of max fuel delivery? One of those things that are set while the pump is on the calibrating machine and are not to be messed with by the truck (ab)user?
