my friend and i put on a 3" performance body lift on my truck yesterday but after we were done he forgot to put on the thread locker stuff...will i be ok without this on the bolts?...they came with locking nuts though..also when my truck is in free i can put my truck in 4 wheel high and he 4by4 light goes on what did he do wrong..thanks i was just helping him and trying to learn how to do this stuff so i really need some help here thanks guys!!!!!!
If I'm understanding you correctly, and I'm not sure if I am, you are saying that with your hubs free, not locked, if you shift into 4 wheel high, your 4x4 light comes on. That is normal, though if I were yuo I wouldn't go shifting into 4wheel without the hubs locked. You're probably hearing a grinding sound if you're doing it when you're moving. And if you're not doing it when you're moving, don't start, you will ruin your transfer case. The only reason the light comes on is because it's sensing that you have shifted into 4wd. The manual hubs have nothing to do with the light, so whether they are locked or not, your light will come on when you shift. Like I said, that's how I understand your problem, if that's not what you meant, sorry.
in all the body lifts me and my friends have done, weve never used the loctite, some of them have been on there for two years and are just fine, i cant imagine tryin to take the bed off 10 years down the road with the loctite on the bolts along with all the rust and buildup
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Nov-01 AT 09:33 PM (EST)]well i guess thats why the 4by4 llight is going on but another thing thats bothing me is im hearing a knocking sound coming form the front driver side lift mount i went under my truck to see what the problem is and i see he put a locking nut on it looks like the wrong bolt(to short).he put a few short bolts where the longer ones should be.im not sure if this is so bad or not but one of the bolts on the front has the locking nut tight at the end of it with no room to spare.if you know what i mean.
Rule of thumb for using locking nuts is you should see at least 2
threads minimum showing for it to work, if you don't see any threads
the bolt is too short and might eventually back off, ouch I hate for
that to happen, better to be safe than sorry.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Nov-01 AT 09:34 PM (EST)]thanks mic i thought it was to short im going to change the bolt tommarro with someone.funny thing is the guy who helped me owns a garage and hes the one who put that bolt there go figure!
