07 El Limited. Mine fell in too. Dealer has fixed them twice. One time ordering the whole piller. At all four doors! After analyzing this problem I think slamming the doors puts pressure on the pillar itself, because you know who ( kids/ wife) cannot close a large door properly they slam them way to much. Now every itme they exit I sit and tell them HEY close it slowly. Might help.
The rubber piece in question is not attached to the metal A pillar cover properly. The glue does not adhere to the aluminum and needs to be attached differently.
So you have been able to see it and retrieve via the opening at the top of the pillar? Guess I need to inspect it closer to see if I can see the trim.. Didn't see it the first time I looked though..
It appears that the original photos in this thread are missing. Can anyone post a photo of the piece of weatherstipping that has caused the wind noise on their vehicle?
I just picked up a 2008 XLT and I'm getting a little bit of wind noise out of the driver's side door at highway speeds. It sounds just like the window is cracked open. I don't see any missing or misaligned seals. So, I'm at a loss as to the cause.
It's at the top of the black plastic piece on the driver door B pillar. At the top there is a little rubber piece that closes the gap from the plastic trim B pillar to the door metal. Not having it won't cause significant wind noise.
Take blue wide masking tape and tape over all the seems on your driver door including where the mirror transitions to the glass. Don't press the tape into the crevices, you are trying to smooth out transisitions-make it more aerodynamic. See if the noise is lessened. Take the tape off one area at time to pinpoint the noise.
If none of that makes a dent, tape over the door seems while closed-you have to crawl in the passenger side, but then you can tell if its' your main door seals or if you need to adjust the striker so it closes tighter. You shouldn't be able to pull a dollar bill through the seal when closed.
Thank you for your response. After your last post I found the pieces you are referring to. On my '08 those parts are hard plastic. I will glue them back in place over the weekend and see if this helps the wind noise. If the noise is still there then I'll begin testing using the masking tape method you suggest.
