Looking at a 06 SD with only 14000 on it. Was wondering if theres any common problems with these trucks to look for. Its got the 5.4 and the spark plugs worry me. Has that problem been resolved? Thanks Bill
The spark plug problem is long resolved as to spitting plugs. The issue with the newer 5.4L 3V trucks is the long electrode below the plug welding itself to the head. Just remove the plugs at about 60,000 miles and check them and put some anti-seize on the plugs - no problems later or just replace with new at that point and put anti-seize on them and you are good for another 60,000 miles or so.
No other issues with 2006 5.4L to my knowledge. Cam phaser gear tick resolved by May of 2005. You may get a lot of ticking tapping from your catylitic converters when you first shut the truck off and they cool down - don't notice it otherwise and no big deal.
