My 97 F250 has the 4 speed auto and it needs to be rebuilt. Should I just buy a whole new one online or rebuild this one? If buy a new one, where? I believe its an E4OD.
Plus the truck is 2wd. and I want to convert to 4x4 eventually. Will the transfer case bolt up to it, or will it need a tranny with one built into it?
Also the shifter is loose as hell, how do I go about fixing that?
Sorry if this is in the wrong section. I just noticed the 93-97 PSD section.
As for the 2wd to 4wd the tail housing/shaft is different and the transmission has be torn down to swap them.
On the loose shifter there are two bolts that loosen up on the steering column that could be your issue. I can't remember their exact locations so hopefully some one will chime in on that.
The clamp is on top of the steering column. Looks like a electical conduit clamp with 2 torx screws. Get it tightened up before it breaks. There are also 2 plastic bushings in there that are probably bad. Its all an easy fix thou. Good Luck.
