dealership give me crap for buying fuel filters for my truck? I havent flat out asked them why yet, just wondering what yalls take on this is. Called today and asked and the guy asked "Is it for a Ford?" of course i lied but what does it matter?
Nalley in Kennesaw. I know one of the salesman there, so i know if it came down to it i could get them if the parts department said no but i just am wanting to know why they care.
I bought mine from the local Cornbinder retailer through my work (semi-truck shop). From what I've read/heard I would have probably heard complaining from the other side of the parts counter if I walked in there and bought them.
Not sure why, apparently some places don't like to make money on parts sales.

From what I understand, the dealer is supposed to sell you part number 1843059C92 (instead of 1847170C93) if the fuel filter is to be used in a Ford application. The filter is the same other than the different number and price. This is supposed to have something to do with the parts supply agreement between Ford and International.
I had no problem with the International parts dept I last went to. When I told them what I was there for, they loaded me up with 10 sets of fuel filters and sent me out the door paying only $250 for all of them. That guy could've cared less what I was putting it in, he only wanted to make the sale! Now that's how it should be!
Now my only question is: What am I going to do with all those filters?
been into a couple of international stores and nobody complained one bit... the first one i didn't have the part no and didn't have the right filter (VT275), so i walked out empty handed. but he didn't care and was trying to help me find the right stuff, but boy was he confused. the 2nd, i still didn't have the part # but i knew to ask for the VT275, and he was happy to help. might have even told him what it was really for, and he didn't care one bit, either...
Because of the complexities and all the options on modern trucks International parts people really just want the last 8 characters of the VIN inorder to get you the right parts.
If you don't have an International truck VIN or a part number the parts procurement process can get bogged down with uncertainties and they may indeed ask if its for a Ford.
I just walk into my local International dealer and give them the part number. They just smile and trade me a filter set for some cash. Why would they care what I plan to use it for. If I owned or managed one of these dealerships and my parts people were turning away business in these tough economic times, I would probably find some new people.
Just bring in the part number on a piece of paper and say I want one of this, thats what I did, I told him it was for a Ford after the parts were on the counter, I dont think he had had any SD owners comming in for filters before. I even got pricing as if I had an account there, even though I dont.
