Been noticing the last few trips up the interstate...have quite a few hills...
that the truck downshifts from od to 3rd..like it always has.
last two times i notice that when it shift back to o/d . I feel a shudder that seems to be coming from the rear end area.
I drive with the split rear windows cracked and hear this shudder---very light and then back to normal..this is between 75-80 mph where this truck has lived 80 % of it's time..
service transmission every 25 k miles so i am wondering if anyone thinks this may be the CARRIER BEARING maybe...
May rear u joints....all is original...
I find that rear end shudders like to be the pinion bearing (it typically has to be something longitudinal) but you said E4OD. E4ODs like to shudder in the converter (its lockup slip) and it certainly does transmit down the drive train to the first solid point - the diff.
pinion bearings sudder always. E4ODs shudder in lockup. try Dr trannys shudder fix from napa - a $6 experiment

Reason: did you catch my spelling?
it seems to me it takes extra time to make the 800 rpm transition from third to od...downshifts quick but really lopes back to o.d. once u get to a flat surface on the hiway...one thing i did not say....
if you push in the button on the shift lever....and then once you get to a flat area...let it back out so u are in o.d. no shudder...
hmmm
only shudders when you let it do it on its own
i feel it more than hear it, but in a higher gear you are typically running less rpms under the hood to quiet things down, and the driveshaft is turnign the fastest it is going to...
can't leave this alone..
can it be now that the weather cooled off it is running to cold.?
i have by=passed the radiator and run thru dual externals..
accoding to the trans temp gage it is just running 100 degrees.
maybe less.
but always heard these trans like it cool...
