Engine bay clean up

My truck is an '86 F150/ 302 efi. I want to clean up the engine bay. So far I removed the cruise control unit under the hood (it didnt work and I wouldnt use it anyways), and the AIR pump and the plumbing involved with that. I am going to remove the AC compressor and plumbing because it hasnt work in years, I dont need it, and I want to see the engine. The passenger side fender is ugly. There's the EVAP canister, and a bunch of connectors, wires, vacuum hoses etc... Is there any of that stuff I can just remove?

Did you plug the back of the heads after removing the hoses from the smog pump?

Ditch everything! As Supersnake said, make SURE you plug the heads before you start yanking emissions stuff or you'll sound like a harley. OR, just buy some aftermarket no smog heads while you're in there!
I went a bit overboard with emptying my engine bay. Nothing in there but the motor, no AC/heater, nothing.

I plan on putting GT 40 heads on mine after moving from NC

They make a Thermactor plug that screws into those ports on the back of the heads if you remove the smog chit...........

Don't plug the line running down the frame rail from the canister. That lets the fuel tank breath.

I didn't plug the heads. I'll look into that, but just out of curiosity, why? What's that for anyways? I'd like a set of aftermarket or upgraded heads, but, unfortunately, that's unrealistic right now given my 18 year old college student budget. But, so, all that vacuum stuff and wires that seem useless can just be ripped out, or what? I mean the engine needs a few sensors as I understand, so what's all that **** next to the canister for? AIR stuff, emissions (which I've pretty much eliminated both of...)?

Because if you don't plug the holes where the air injection went, you will have hot exhaust pouring out of the holes. Those holes go directly into your exhaust ports.

Um, do you really really hate your cat? the Air injected downstream keeps the exhaust temps from reaching nuclear levels and it allows the cat to do its cat bizness and burn off the HC emissions.

Even if you dont have emissions sniffing there, you have a mandatory physical inspection.

I don't have the cat on the truck. I'm not worried about exhaust temperatures. Where can I find some "plugs" for the heads?

Hahahahaha now were talking. I see how it is. Haha I don't know about sparkplugs, but I'll make something work. Now how about all the vacuum lines and wires? I mean how the hell do I determine what to keep and what not to keep?

What a waste - another cut up and butchered truck. At least in my opinion. I have been looking for a good stock flareside for a couple of years now - it seems that all I run into is this modified junk. Sad really.

Ford put it all in there for a purpose. You need the various sensors and items to make your EFI system work properly. You need some form of fuel tank venting to make your fuel delivery system work properly. So - if you want something simpler - get a older truck - and leave these rather rare trucks alone! Again in my opinion.

Hmmm. I never thought about it like that. You're right. I should just leave it alone. Maybe I'll cover it up with some sheet metal or something. Is my truck actually rare? Thank you for your opinion, and good advice.
