I currently own a 2008 F250 Superduty with a V-10, big commercial snowplow, etc. We sold our trailer and I won't be doing commercial snowplowing anymore so I don't need the big V-10 gas guzzler. I need a 4X4 truck and was thinking about a Ranger Super Cab but I'm concerned about gas mileage. Can anyone who owns one tell me what they typically get for gas mileage on a 4.0 Ranger? Thanks.
I just recently purchased a 98 super cab ranger with the 4.0 ,4x4 and auto. I get 18 mpg in city with a/c on. I had an older f-250 and the 10 mpg was killing me. I am very pleased with the ranger.
To make a long story short, anytime you have a full framed 4x4 truck with a true 4x4 system, it creates weight and drag. The toyota 4 cylinder 4x4 trucks get 18 mpg. With that said, my 04 ranger supercab 4x4 with 4.0, 5-speed manual and 4:10 gears would get 20-22 local driving and 24-25 highway. I was the exception to the rule as I live and work in the country, no city driving, small town at best. I also ran synthetic fluids in my whole drivetrain. The average with an automatic is 18-20 on the 4x4 ranger and that can very because of different conditions. I was quite happy with my mpg and just ordered another one, but an FX4 OFF/ROAD this time but again with a manual. Alot of people think the ranger 4x4 mpg sucks. Understanding 4x4's, I think they do fine. However, the final verdict will be up to you.
at highway I have about 10l/100km. Aerostar is bigger, but 9 l /100km , I think becouse of 5 st tranny. Unfortunatly ranger and aerostar have aerodinamics of four wall brick and more speed - less gas milage. Optimal speed is about 45-50 MPH. driving at 70-100 mph you will pay more for gas then for tickets. to save fuel use cruise controll. really saves fuel.
I guarantee you will see a bit of a difference going from an F-250 V-10 to a 4.0 Ranger, at least a mile or two per gallon, lol. I get a consistant 22mpg with my 99 4x4 XLT 4.0, about 50-50 city-highway.
