here we go. i have an f250 withdual piston callipers and drums out back. all stock. the power brake booster is new as is the master cylender as are the callipers as are the wheel cylenders and the front rubber hoses. i replaced all of this because one day my pedal went down and wouldn't come back up. it has brake power that would throw you through the windshield and when the truck is off, it pumps up and gets stiff (so stiff you could stand on it so i don't think its a bleed the brakes thing.) it stops fine you just have to pull the pedal up with your toe after pressing it. i don't see any remnants of a spring under the dash, and its a pretty clear shot because its torn apart for electrical issues. if you have any ideas give me a yell. betsy is about to die over this crap
pull the master cylinder off the booster and push on the piston with a screw driver does it spring back if you still have brakes this is a very weird problem
i will tell you that as a drastic measure to move the truck before the inline 6 blew, i put a pair of vice grips on the vacuum hose and clamped it almost shut and the brakes were normal. if the master cylender is the problem than it will be probably the 6th one i've tried. because i was on the same page with the master cylendar has to be the problem. if the truck isnt on the pedal springs right back up. i'm in limbo. ive worked on all kinds of brakes but i've never had this happen does anyone know if there is supposed to be a spring under the dash?
I have a pedal set laying on a self for a future auto to stick conv. and that has no spring on the petal and I can remember changing my master cylinder and booster before and the pedal fell to the floor with nothing in I wonder if its a problem with the booster.
the problem manifested before the new booster was put on. that was just one attempt to fix the problem. i don't know. i've tried everything that i could but i guess its just time for a teardownmaybe. but keep trying, i appreciate the ideas
My truck did same thing changed m/c no dirrerents.I started lubing up behind brake booster with p.b.blaster and working brake pedel.because there is a pivit i\ing bracket on there. It fixed the problem. I'd say thats whats up with yours
Can't say for sure if it's supposed to be there, but there is a spring under the dash on my truck. Even with that in place my pedal started to act just like yours recently with no change to the spring.
Im gonna try what bmuhlbach tried and see if it works. PB blaster here we come!
