I am looking to replace the front and rear rotors and callipers on my 2002 Ford Explorer Limited (UR, 4.6L V8, Australia). I would like to see what someone like Wilwood or Brembo has, for example, but I can't seem to find the right numbers. So, have 2 questions:
1. What manufacturer would you recommend a change to, and
2. What is the OEM part number for the rotors and callipers for this car - so I can look up a replacement myself.
Have you tried rockauto.com? Sometimes, they list Motorcraft parts and have the part numbers.
I don't know that the part numbers for US-market and Australian-market Explorers are the same or if the parts are physically interchangeable, though. I would assume so, but you know what they say about assuming. I've seen manufacturers do some unexpected things with part numbers in different countries, especially for motorcycles.
Personally, I've had good luck with Raybestos on my other Fords. I just picked up an Explorer a few months ago and haven't had to mess with the brakes, other than the parking brake. I've noticed that some of their parts are made in China, so I'm not happy about that. Unfortunately, it's hard to avoid Chi-com parts these days.
Hey mate, thanks for the reply. So far, all the part numbers I've come across are the same. I just ordered a replacement fuel cap which came from a US company and it fit perfectly. I've also used forums like these to chase up wiring diagrams and so on, all pretty good. I think all they did was changed the dash to KM/H and moved it all to the right hand side, lol.
I'll check out the site you suggested. Thanks again!
IIRC after doing a front pad replacement, the caliper pins are different top and bottom and should not be swapped. Also, the top & bottom pins are bottom & top on the opposite side - something to watch out for.
